Sandia Thermal Test Complex

Work Summary:

-Served as one of two lead developers during Process Equipment Control System (PECS) design, development and commissioning phases.

-Delivered fully automated process control system needed to control large-scale thermal test environments such as radiant heat, liquid and gas fuel fires.

-Application was done using National Instruments LabVIEW, LabVIEW real-time, Data Logging and Superviser Control (DSC), and TestStand.

-Overall software architecture focused on third party Graphic Object Orientated Programming (GOOP) design.

-Control system hardware centered on real-time embedded control provided through National Instruments FieldPoint distributed programmable controllers.

-Control of various field equipment include: large fans, pumps, valves, dampers, gas and liquid flow control, pressure and temperature control, SCR heater control, etc.

-  Several process 'sub-systems' comprising over 850 analog and digital I/O channels distributed across multiple FieldPoint PAC controller/backplane nodes.

-OPC linking to TPC MODBUS/CAN bus.

-Extensive coordination between multiple contractors and support groups.

-Co-developed all facets hardware, software, and system functionality documentation, such as software design architecture, user manual, etc.
